Introducing The Motivated School in Bushes Primary School

Bushes Primary School was inspected in March 2005. While the school received a good report, but the head teacher and staff were disappointed and decided to use the Motivated School Framework as a vehicle for development. The school started by looking at the learner needs and used these as the basis of staff reflection. Further staff development on understanding their own and others motivation and the learning stances was then undertaken by all staff.

Pupils were then profiled using the learning stances framework which is part of the Motivated School. A group of pupils who were often in the ‘hiding and upset’ stance were identified and the school are investigating ways in which these young people and their parents can be supported.

The benefits of the introduction of the Motivated School have been observed more widely around the school. For example, teachers now describe pupils in Motivated School terms, pupils are being given more responsibility in various aspect of school life and wall displays are being used to increase knowledge among pupils and parents about the Motivated School.

Motivated School developments are at an early stage in Bushes Primary School, however, the head teacher and staff are confident that it will make a significant impact on school development.
